Apartment living does not always mean cramped spaces and difficult to decorate, it’s all about how you utilize your space, color palette and shopping skills!
A few tips and tricks that I can advise to anyone stumped on decorating is to start with picking your palette! Apartments (or most spaces these days) tend to be “open floor plan” which means that multiple spaces or rooms are blended together with a lack of walls. This means that in order to create a cohesive space, it is best to choose a basic palette to stick to in each area. For example, we stuck with dark browns and black wood for our darks and a mixture of warm greys, creams and browns for our lighter tones. This made it easy to shop for as well as add items to our registry because we knew what we had in mind.
Next is LIGHT FILTERING CURTAINS! These babies are hidden gems that can’t be found often but are the best when it comes to a small space with limited natural light but still a need for privacy and weather protection. (Ours in particular are from Target, in a 2 pack for $20!) Once we put them up, it immediately changed our space, opened up the room and gave it a more home-like feel.
Finally, keep things you, whether you live alone, married or have a roommate(s), keep your home you. This where you return to from your day, where you get to cozy up and watch Netflix, where you are your most genuine self (sweatpants, no makeup and all!). All of our furniture pieces, pillows and all are wonderful but it’s the little personal touches that we’ve added that I love the most. Like our vows that hang above our table, our wood sign that has the year we got married on it, and the eucalyptus stems that we had at our wedding in the vases on our floating shelves. Include personal touches in your home and the rest will fall into place!
