My ‘Woman Warrior’ Story
Hey babes! I am so so so excited to share with y’all a new partnership that I am doing with Stella Valle! Stella Valle is a lovely jewelry company that is run by two sisters who previously served in the military. Now they are continuing that warrior spirit into the jewlery world and I absolutely love it! (Read more about their story here.) I’ve been a fan of this company since before I started blogging and even gifted a few bracelets to my wedding party and family. They have been featured on Shark Tank and Good Morning America in their journey and I’m so happy to also be a part of that journey with them today!
Below, I am sharing the blog post that I wrote for their “Women Warrior” Blog. This is probably the most vulnerable I have ever been, when they asked me to write about my story and why I feel like I am a Woman Warrior, I was a little thrown off. Me? A warrior? That’s never been a word I would have used to describe myself. No drastic event has ever happened in my life, not severe injuries or anything like that, while I am blessed and very thankful for those things, I didn’t think that that would make me an interesting candidate to be a “Woman Warrior”. So among discussing ideas for this post, a theme started to build, dreams. I have always been a dreamer, always trying to achieve the uncommon things and that has always set me a part or made me the odd one out. And that is what I decided to share with y’all. Enjoy and hopefully a piece of my story can help or inspire you in some way, if not, well then, we’re just getting to know each other better then!
Saying you’re going to dream and work for those dreams to come true is a lot different than actually doing it. It takes hard work, dedication and a team of supporters cheering you on! I wouldn’t be where I am now and on the track I’m on if it weren’t for my husband, my family and my incredible friends. It took me a long time to realize that we can’t do these things alone. All my life I thought it was up to me to do everything on my own if not I would look weak or not good enough. The work comes from you but the support comes from the treasured people in your life. I love that I get to share my stories and experiences with an audience of dreamers. We get to support each other and grow together and that’s what makes me feel like a Woman Warrior.
Ever since I was little I had an eye for style (clearly you can tell in these pictures…). I loved to dress up my dolls for “fashion shows”, sketch outfits I wish could come to life, and just enjoyed the art that is fashion. Growing up though, this wasn’t the most popular thing to love; a lot of my friends were driven towards sports and such while I just wanted to draw, go shopping or dance. I was always different and that’s okay, now I know that but then not so much. I spent plenty of years trying to be like the other people around me and in that I never let my true self show.
High school came along and honestly, that’s when everyone picks their personality that they want to stick to. The jocks, the theater people, the band people, debate club, etc., everyone had their group of people. Well…I liked theater, and I was on drill team, but I also was in Fashion class and Marketing classes; and once again I didn’t feel like I fit in. I had friends, don’t get me wrong, but they all had their place and I always felt like the outsider. But this is when my personality started fighting through the person I was trying to be for others. I knew my passions were never going to fade so I finally accepted being different (it was not easy though trust me). I chose a college solely based on what I wanted to do with my life, even though it was far from home and nowhere near where the rest of my friends were going. It was challenging at first, and I was so lonely but I knew it would be worth it.
This dream carried me all the way through three and a half years of college and I graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Merchandising and a Minor in Marketing. I also was blessed enough to meet the love of my life, and we just got married this past January! He is my best friend and understands me. Together we dream and work towards our goals, life is fun that way. Even if they’re small, any accomplishment is still something to celebrate.
I recently took another step into my dreams and started a fashion blog *gulp*. I was terrified to put myself out there like that, share style tips and such. This scared me to pieces, but I knew my heart was calling me towards it. With endless encouragement and help from my wonderful husband, Cain to Style was born! But if that wasn’t enough, I also accepted a full time position at a corporate fashion company in the same month of starting the blog.
Safe to say this life of mine is pretty busy, but I wouldn’t have any of these things in my life, that I hold so near and dear to my heart, if I wouldn’t have fought for being myself. My dreams and passions are among my most treasured possessions and that’s something I hope everyone gets to realize in their life. None of this was easy, but I have an incredible family and friends who have supported me along the way. They have been there to pick me up and dust me off. Like I mentioned before all I had to do was let them. I tried so hard to do this all on my own, from beginning to now it is a constant battle I’m facing. But even Woman Warriors need their army, and I have no idea where I would be without mine!
