The top four dry shampoos recommended by Y’ALL tested and reviewed in the past month!
A month ago, on stories I asked y’all about your BEST dry shampoo recommendations and boy oh boy, you guys did not disappoint! The past couple of years I feel like I have tried so many and just never found one that I truly loved. So, when in quarantine, what better time to try a bunch out?
For background info, I usually wash my hair every 3-4 days and use dry shampoo on the 2nd & 3rd day if I go that long. So all of these were tested twice for one week and treated the same as all dry shampoos; spray, let sit, rub in, done! Honestly, this kinda felt like a science experiment, haha. So I “graded” them based off of three things, smell, color & freshness. So, in order of what I tried, I have written a review of each spray! Here we go!
WEEK 1: Eva NYC, Freshen Up Dry Shampoo
Okay so first off, can we talk about this pretty vibe? And only $12 for a 5.3oz. can! I had never heard of this brand but a good handful of y’all recomended this so I knew it had to be a hidden treasure! It did not dissapoint and probably not fair that I tried this one first because it set the bar pretty high!

Smell: Absolutely wonderful! Slightly tropical but not too strong or fake smelling, you know? Lasted just the right amount and wasn’t overpowering.
Color: Okay, so I was SO impressed that there was no color AT ALL! (And I have black hair.) I shook it again after my first spray because I kept thinking, maybe it’s settled at the bottom and I’m not getting anything yet. No, it really comes out colorless and still works!
Freshness: This really kept my hair fresh throughout the day and didn’t need alot of touching up the next day either! My hair still felt light, not too heavy because of product. Would highly reccomend this because it is the most price friendly for the quality you get!
WEEK 2: Dove, Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo
I am so sad to say that this one missed the mark for me… While it was very affordable at $4.89 for a 5oz. can, this is a very good deal. I LOVE Dove products, theyre good to my skin and always love the scents but this one just is not for me. In my opinion, it did not make too big of a difference in my hair and while I got the “Volume and Fullness” one, I did not see that reaction for me either.

Smell: To me, this smelled like their deodorant. Which is lovely because it smells very fresh, but maybe not for my hair. BUT some might like that and that’s totally cool! Or maybe I need to try a different type and the scent is different?
Color: There was a slight color and it faded in well so that was good frosure!
Freshness: This one did make my hair feel fresh, the product heaviness was a little strong and I did need to reapply throughout the day which was kind of a bummer. :/
WEEK 3: drybar, Detox Dry Shampoo
Okay, so for these next two, I purchased the travel sized ones because they are on the pricier side. Since this was an experient, I figured that was perfect for trying out! For this one, the travel size can was $13 for a 1.3oz. can. The regular size is $23 for 3.5oz.

Smell: This smells DIVINE! Like partial perfume, partial home vibes, it’s very…pretty, if thats a scent discriptive word, haha. I thought that this was the most original scent for a Dry Shampoo in comparison to the others!
Color: This, like the Dove one, had a light color, that faded well when you rubbed into the hair! Very impressed!
Freshness: This product left my hair feeling the lightest out of all of them which I LOVED! Having longer hair, it always feels pretty heavy so this really felt good to use and it not drag me down! It lasted really long in my hair and honestly I could have lasted 5 days without washing if I wanted to!
WEEK 4: Living Proof, PhD (Perfect Hair Day) Dry Shampoo
Alright, so this was probably the MOST popular of the recommendations so I knew I just had to try it out. It prices at $14 for the 1.4oz. and $25 for 4.0oz. Between the two pricier options (so this and the drybar one) I think I would choose the drybar product. Heres why…

Smell: The scent is quite lovely, very fresh and slightly floral but not overpowering. It did linger a little bit more than I would like throughout the day though.
Color: This is where it lost me. Please keep in mind that I have black hair so the white is VERY noticiable in my hair. This was very difficult to rub in and in some areas it stayed so much that I had to hand pick the coat off of. (I sprayed in the same areas, same amount of spray and shaking as the others)
Freshness: This did make my hair fresh and I did notice the most volume with this product which is a great plus! I really just think overall, it was the color that made me prefer something else.
In conclusion, I had a blast with this little experiment and I hope this review was helpful for y’all! Personally, I think from now on, I will keep the Eva NYC & drybar dry shampoos on hand. They did the best for my hair and met all of my expectations so yay! Now…any ideas for the next product review?
