All of the details, ideas, inspo and links behind our guest bedroom in the apartment.
Hey guys! Welcome to the first blog post on this Home Series that I have been wanting to do for so so long! I love home decor and ever since I was little I have dreamed of having a home of my own to decorate, style and make unique! This is our second apartment, our first apartment was lovely however location was not as ideal for our current jobs. Moving was the best decision to help this situation but we also weren’t ready for a house yet. So this townhome style apartment was the perfect fit for us. It’s a two bed, two bath home with a large living space. As newly weds, financially, we try to stay as financially cautious as possible but still invest in good pieces of furniture that we know will last. In order to do this, Facebook marketplace & Craigslist have become our best friends. If not it’s sales and coupons that help us along the way!
I am going to write this out the way that I thought of the planning for it all. Almost like the “who, what, where and why” of the process! Let’s get started!
What will this space be used for?
This room is used for plenty of things! It serves as a guest room for vistors, Marcus’ office, my “Try-On” room for the blog and storage! We loved having the idea of an extra room for all of these things so that we had more space to keep our room, our room and separated from the rest of our everyday activites!
Inspiration!
To Pinterest we go! I will forever recomend Pinterest as a starting point for creativity to spark! Creating a board and organizing it to your liking is so easy and fun so it should be very user friendly for you to keep all of your ideas together! Also, if you follow any home decor accounts/influencers on Instagram, saving their posts with ideas you like to an album is another great way to keep track on inspiration! You’ll start finding some common things you like for the space you’re looking for such as, black trim details, creams, multiple textures, a statement wall, etc. From there you can start designing your space!

Execution
Shopping for this space was the hardest part but I’m always on the hunt for a good sale, a spray paint fix or Facebook marketplace find! Marketplace has become my best friend when it comes to some pieces I look for! For this room I was able to successfully find our daybed, desk and desk chair all on marketplace for amazing deals and all in perfect condition! A few other shopping finds were from Amazon, Kirklands, Target, Walmart and boutiques! Everything for this room is linked HERE to shop.
DESK SPACE
Since the room is a square and small in size but tall in height, we needed things like the curtains and wall decor to help balence the room with such short and key things like the desk and bed. The desk needed to be wide and still blend well into the room when not in use. This World Market (Facebook Marketplace) find was perfect for the spot! The lighter wood mixed with metal accents blend very well with the space. Desk accessories include, wide desk pad, phone stand and monitor risers. The acrylic calendar is probably one of my favorite things in this room! Organization & modern office decor all in one!

SLEEP SPACE
We chose a day bed for this room because we felt like only a very small amount of time would be used for guests but still wanted to have the option. We did consider a few pull out couch options but in the end just didn’t find one that we loved. I did still want the bed to appear couch-like and therefore chose a lighter color and monochromatic bedspread to match. This makes it very inviting when you are in the space to sit, nap, read a book, etc.
DECOR
For the decor, this was years of college dorms + wedding decor + wedding gifts + our old apartment, so thankfully that was covered. When it comes to gallery walls, there is NO right or wrong. This is YOUR space, however you like it will be best! The way that I think about it is all in balance. In this space (and our home really) I mix textures and colors often. It was important to continue doing that on this wall so that all of the solids in the room felt cohesive. Ex: light grey velvet curtains, tufted cream daybed, light wood desk and mirror, dark metal accents throughout. So you’ll see, the pieces within the wall are balanced in a semi triangle pattern if you will!
*In the pink triangle I grouped the decor with dark wood finishes and cream details. In the green triangle I grouped black framed decor. And the metal arrow and map are a great mix in the middle!*
Ta-Da!
It’s all complete! So happy to now have this space to welcome guests, work and cozy up on rainy days. I love sharing this process with y’all and can’t wait to keep sharing more as we work on making this space our dream! If you have any questions feel free to DM me, comment on photos, etc! I always love to chit chat with y’all about home decor, style, tips, tricks, and more!
